The Lebanon-born guitarist known as Nocy is as unclassifiable as Los Angeles itself.
Reared under the demanding Middle Eastern time signatures of his birthplace, Nocy lived for years in Paris, where he absorbed Gypsy guitar,
flamenco, and other stringed input. But he is not untouched by rock music.
Performing with a small ensemble of bass, guitar, and percussion, Nocy plays all the lead- and rhythm-guitar
segments - it's hard to tell if there is any overdubbing. The Gypsy raveups, Spanish fandangos, quiet romantic instrumentals, and ensemble
rhythm juggernauts are all quite wonderful; this music has a life force coursing through it.
